Top Ten Things I Learned in 2010

I would hate to think that we ever reach a season of our life that the years start blending in to one another. Where each year looks the same as the last, and we forget to look deeply into the moments of our lives. Recently I saw a plaque that read:

Don’t Count the Minutes.                  Make the Minutes Count.

Unfortunately, I usually don’t pay enough attention and miss personal teaching opportunities. I thought, perhaps, that I might reflect a little on this past year.

Top Ten Things I Learned in 2010:

  1. Talking to strangers can lead to unexpected lunch dates.
  2. Sometimes as a mom, you just have to be “the mean girl”.
  3. The death of a pet can feel like the death of a family member.
  4. My children listen to me more than I realize.
  5. I don’t take enough showers.
  6. Motherhood kills brain cells.
  7. It really does take a village to raise a child.
  8. Sometimes the best thing you can do in life is just show up.
  9. You can foster friendships with people you’ll never meet.
  10. It’s important to carve out time for yourself.
